Oral Medication Dispenser
The patented Dose-2-Weight Syringe® is the next generation liquid medication dispenser. Each Dose-2-Weight Syringe® is calibrated to the dosage strength of a specific medication and marked with multiple correlated measurements. These measurements may include, among others, weight or other patient characteristic, medication dosage or volume of the medication. This enhanced multi-indicia display increases the overall safety and accuracy of administration, by providing the ability to intuitively correlate the unit dosage to a specific patient characteristic.
Current dosing recommendations and monographs for OTC liquid medications commonly specify a set mL volume of medication for an age and weight range; rather than correlating an exact unit dosage, such as mg to the specific individual’s accurate age or weight. This dosing regimen results in younger and smaller mass patients receiving higher doses and older and larger mass patients receiving lower doses within the recommended dosing range.
The current age and weight dosing technique was established not only to support a more accurate weight based dosing, but also to offer a crucial alternative mode if the patient’s weight is not known. Despite the fact that this dosing model has been shown in a multitude of studies to be successful and now required in many monographs; unlike the Dose-2-Weight Syringe® none of the delivery devices incorporated within these medications are designed and display multi-mode dosing options.
The Dose-2-Weight Syringe® eliminates the need to correlate a volume, unit dosage or patient feature from a medication package or other media to the delivery device. These features circumvent the procedures shown to be the primary cause of error during the preparation and administration of OTC liquid medications.1
The Dose-2-Weight Syringe® enhances safety and convenience during preparation and administration while in parallel, providing ultra-precise dosing and visual reverification of the correct amount of medication for the specific patient.
