Amoxicillin & Clavulanate Oral Suspension Dispenser – Children

Pediatric Dosing Information

The current Prescribing Information (PI) for the administration of amoxicillin and clavulanate oral suspension (200 mg/5 mL), recites; for children three months or older, but less than 40 kilograms with severe infection, 45.0 mg/kg/day in divided does of 22.5 mg per kilogram of patient weight every 12 hours.1

Conversely, the PI does not describe the extrapolation of the 22.5 mg or 45.0 mg (11.25% – 22.5%) from the 5 mL – 200 mg suspension required for the subsequent conversion to an individual kilogram patient dose as prescribed.

This dosing regimen provides for an elevated risk of error and inaccurate dosing, due to the calculation and measurement procedures required to perform by health care providers.

The Dose-Weight Syringe® is specifically calibrated to administer a patient specific dose of amoxicillin and clavulanate oral suspension to the optimal dose of 22.5 mg/kg every 12 hours to an individualized pediatric body weight as recommended.
