Lamivudine Oral Solution Dispenser

Pediatric Dosing Information

The current Prescribing Information (PI), for the administration of Lamivudine oral solution (10mg/mL) in HIV-1-infected pediatric patients aged 3 months and older recites; a recommended dose of 5.0 mg per kg taken orally twice daily or 10.0 mg per kg taken orally once daily (up to a maximum of 300 mg daily).1

The PI further describes that pediatric dosing should be calculated on a body weight (kg) to the oral solution containing 10 mg of Lamivudine per mL. 1

Conversely the PI fails to give any further directions for the extrapolation of the 5.0 mg or 10.0 mg from the 10mg/mL solution, nor any subsequent conversion of the milligram solution to a patient kilogram dose as prescribed for the already significantly compromised pediatric patient.

The Dose-Weight Syringe® is specifically calibrated to administer a patient specific dose of Lamivudine oral solution to an optimal dose of 5.0 mg/kg or 10.0 mg/kg to an individualized pediatric body weight.
